Youth Made Malaysia was proud to take on an exciting challenge in 2018.
Books On The Move is an initiative to share the joy of reading and to encourage more Malaysians to read! The Malaysian founder, Carol Koh had the idea of setting up book exchange areas in train stations; a place where people could share books and would bring a little joy to people who commute to work daily.
Student volunteers from a number of our partner schools attended a weekend designing workshop at Mereka MakerSpace, and with help from BijiBiji they brainstormed ideas of how to create these outcomes. The idea was to convert used oil drums into book exchange stations.
Students presented these ideas and prototypes to each other during the weekend session. They were later showcased at Think City Liveable Cities Interactive Exhibition as part of World Urban Forum 9.
After this, the ideas and card models were fabricated into fully operational outcomes which are now up and running at three LRT stations - Ampang Park, KL Sentral and Pasar Seni! Each of them has a unique theme and students proudly have their names engraved on them too. A fantastic real brief, working with real companies, making a real difference in the local community. Please pop along, take a book with you, swap it, enjoy reading and enjoy the great work produced!
